Contrary to popular belief and the most common interpretation within the page, I don’t see Elizabeth Lavenza as an INFJ, but rather as someone with Fi dom. To me, she appears deeply guided by her personal value of what a pure human being is, and also emotional integrity, and inner moral compass, rather than by an abstract vision of meaning, as would be typical for someone with dominant Ni. Having Fi as a dominant function means living according to one’s inner emotional truth, making decisions based on what feels authentic, and meaningful from within, rather than what is socially expected or collectively approved. Fi dom people strive for emotional purity (sometimes as an ideal as we see with her) and moral coherence. Their empathy is selective, not necessarily broad or socially attuned, but deeply rooted in what personally resonates with them. Such people often become detached from external realities or overly idealistic about love and virtue. In Elizabeth’s case, this is evident in her unwavering devotion to her own ideals of beauty, purity, and emotional truth (in which she finds within the creature) rather than to expectations or the perspectives or emotions of others. Moreover, I don’t see a clear presence of auxiliary Fe in her personality. Yes, she does show concern for the creature, but that concern stems not from Fe’s interpersonal empathy or desire for harmony, but from Fi’s emotional resonance, from the sense that the creature represents something she has longed for and idealized her entire life: emotional purity. When looking upon her supposed use of Fe, especially in her later interactions with Victor, who is far from a virtuous man (and is indeed very cruel) and commits atrocious and despicable acts, I think a Fe aux user would handle the situation very different, even without condoning his actions. Having Fe as an aux function involves a strong awareness of others’ emotional states, an intuitive ability to read social and emotional cues. Fe aux individuals often aim to soothe rather than confront, to understand rather than judge. Even in moments of anger or disappointment, they seek connection, not because they ignore wrongdoing, but because they value relational balance and mutual understanding. Elizabeth (as Fi user and not Fe user) responds from within: she feels hurtful and so judges, reproaches, and distances herself from him (morally right in doing so) but totally guided by her own moral convictions. She does not try to restore harmony; she upholds her emotional truth, even if it isolates her. That is the essence of Fi, not Fe. I found her to be a beautifully written character. I see that she remains trapped in her dream world more in love with an ideal than with reality itself. Being a complete 4 type.
