Which is most likely what she was insecure about, Elisabeth simply stood out more because of her personality. And in turn the Kaiser fell in love with Elisabeth, and did not chose Helene. The two mothers believed Helene would be a good wife/Empress because she would be very obedient and conventional, thus she would cause no problems and wouldn’t be difficult, she would simply produce heirs without a question. As we know Elisabeth is the rebellious and impulsive personality she is the worst choice as empress, but Franz loved this about her and defied his mother, (I can argue Elisabeth is the perfect match for Franz because she dares him to defy and speak up.) She has ISFJ written all over her, the best thing that happened to her was when Elisebeth stole her man cus she got some character development lol
