I think you really can feel the difference in Si vs Ni in comparing Brian Wilson to Paul McCartney, who is Si auxiliary., especially with regards to how they treated their influences. Paul McCartney plumbed his childhood of music and created this tweaked version of dancehall, pop, skiffle, country, and rock n' roll that became emblematic of his style within the Beatles. He had a roving musical appetite & a lot of variety in his approach (Si-Ne) but if you listen his works are "quirky" more than they are a completely remolding of his influences. Wilson was more about taking the impressions of the stuff that he most loved (Phil Spector, Doo-wop) mostly and then breaking it down to these sort of unknowable pieces, rearranging them, and then running it through his idiosyncratic & highly personalized approach and songwriting style. His style feels more like an impressionist reimagining of 50's vocal groups than it does a quirky pastiche on them. They both used Fe to "give people music they would want" versus someone like John Lennon or Bob Dylan who made music they themselves wanted to make alone. However, Paul would often fall back on tradition or some screwy sort of impression of orthodoxy, (Fe-Si) whereas Brian made something that he thought their was an appetite for, when no such appetite *yet* existed, though it would grow in esteem over the years. Sgt. Pepper and Pet Sound's respective success and lack of success in their time shows how much more on the immediate pulse of the burgeoning psychedelic / hippie movement Paul was, and how comparatively groundless Brian's instincts were. In time, of course, albums like Pet Sounds, Smiley Smile, Sunflower, Surf's Up would be instrumental in the formation of dream pop, psych rock, emo, bedroom pop, lo-fi, and auteurship in music, generally. Brian also seems way more 6 than 4. I grant some strong 4 vibes from something like "I Guess I Just Wasn't Made For These Times", but there's a lot of Tony Asher there. 'Till I Die, written entirely by Wilson, describes a deathly feeling of anchorlessness - a dread formed from a lack of support, to be a "cork on the ocean". Maybe analyzing lyrics is not a wise avenue of analysis, but Wilson on the whole feels less identity driven & more driven by looking for people who he can rely on. His outlook tens to be overall pretty sunny & optimistic, despite a lot of darkness hanging around him, so I would err towards a w7 versus w5 but I could see a case for either.
