Because the point of arguing isn’t winning, it’s to reach the truth, or at least a viewpoint that makes the most logical sense. In my opinion, one becomes bad at arguing once they become more focused on winning than actually reaching the truth, as this can lead to the situation I described above. If one loses an argument, it should be because the original statement/point was plain incorrect. But because of factors like pride and such, people with initially good, right arguments will lose.
