I don't doubt he's an ESFP for a minute but I've gotta be honest, ESFP + 4 is a really strange mix. As someone who's read his autobiography and watched numerous interviews of him, I'd say he strays more toward 7, rather than 4. It's visible when you see his approach to his music: In multiple interviews during 1974 and 1975 (that is, during the peak of his stardom) he doesn't value the uniqueness or the artistic part of his music as much as how listenable it is, and how it always comes and goes. If he was a 4, he'd value a lot more his artistic integrity and his identity as a musician (say, David Bowie). This comparison is quite relevant if you see another aspect of both their careers: Both artists have been recognized for their outlandish costumes on-stage and their sense of fashion. While Bowie was doing it more to represent his different personas and how he manifested his art through them, Elton always talks about the fun of it, and how it was a way to live his teenage years during his 20s, as he wasn't able to dress that way when he was younger. He always talks about it as an opportunity he got to seek out these new experiences and not miss out on the fun of being a rockstar, which sounds more like a 7's motivation to me. I've got more examples to flesh out more this argument, but I think my comment's long enough lol
