He draws from his upbringing in a bad neighborhood in Compton, California, riddled with crime, gangsterism and racial oppression, as well as his current status as one of the modern day, if not of all time (even being the first rapper to ever win a Pulitzer prize), and his resulting sense of survivor's guilt, responsibility and an unfortunate Savior complex.
