Coming from d&d, warlocks tipically sign a pact to acquire something in return. They are viewed as individuals who gained their power through the pact and may as well have been driven to signing it, e.g.: they have been rejected and view as inferior people their entire life. Warlocks want something that they cannot attain and are ready to sacrifice their very being for it. They have been controlled their entire life and don't want to feel like that anymore. It's not just power for the sake of it, it's power to show they are superior to others. They are willing to sacrifice more than others to attain their ultimate goal.
背景
The Theurgist Magician. The Magician makes a pact with a higher spirit (although not usually a god since those tend to be distinct in fantasy settings), who supplies him with magical powers. This is usually flavored with a Deal with the Devil. While healing class pacts are seen as good, a magician that makes a pact with an entity that gives them the power to harm or destroy is usually flavored in a darker light - and it may turn out to be with demons or Eldritch Abominations. Thus, this type of magic is usually heavily offensive and nasty.
