This was a result from how his sister and parents mocked him for his weight and his lack of ambition. However, he becomes more self-confident through the events he encountered inside Awaken Online which taught him a lot of good life advice and gave him more backbone. He also fell in love with one of the NPCs, causing him to become conflicted about this as he knows she's not real but also knows that the AI is so advanced that the NPCs in-game are and act indistinguishably from real people.
