I think Bashir is a 3w2 rather than a 2w3. Compassion isn’t what the Enneagram measures, any type can care deeply. His core is image and achievement: - The core 3 wound: he was a slow child > his parents had him genetically enhanced to meet their expectations > he grew up performing a self that wasn’t his > he learned that his worth came from achieving. - He heavily manages his image. He deliberately finished second in his class so nobody would suspect the enhancement, and he hid it for decades. A 2 hides needs, while a 3 hides anything that would undermine how they’re seen. - He wants to be the hero. He chose DS9 for the adventure of frontier medicine and plays James Bond in the holosuite. He wants to be admired as the brilliant, dashing doctor, which isn’t the same as wanting to be needed. - Failure hits his self-image, not his relationships. In “The Quickening,” his grief for the people he couldn’t save is completely genuine; being a 3 doesn’t mean he cares any less. But what breaks him is realizing he was arrogant to think he could fix it, and he responds by staying until he achieves a cure. A 2 would feel the loss through the relationships, as being rejected or unneeded. His caring, romantic pursuits and need to be liked come from a strong 2 wing.

Started alternatively being droolingly infatuated with Dax, painfully green, and generally coming across as Lieutenant George IN SPACE prattling eagerly about frontier medicine and generally getting up the nose of anyone unfortunate to be nearby. Later his behavior gives way to some dark personal secrets.
