Far and away one of the most compelling representations of a SX8 in recent cinema. Killer performance from Teyana Taylor as well. "What's this p*ssy for? War. The p*ssy ain't for fun, the guns is the f***ing fun." Perfidia gets bored of Bob because there's no conquest in being with him, as we see pretty quickly in some shots that their dynamic hinted at domesticity (holding baby Charlene/Willa in bed). Lockjaw represents the larger industrial military complex of the United States, so of course it felt more rewarding for her as a revolutionary to shove a gun up his rear. However, I think the most interesting reading of her character is that she was ultimately attracted to herself, her idea of power, how she looked and felt conquering these through her own sexuality. For her brief time in the film we're given a core breakdown of SX8 honestly. The polarizing response to her character from audiences interests me. I've seen people say she was the real villain of the film, that she deserved what happened to her, etc. But I think all of these complaints speak to a dissatisfaction with the fact that we're never told outright or suggested how to feel about this character, who is uncompromising and uninhibited in her actions. Her sexuality isn't packaged with a progressive subtext appealing to any zeitgeist-y readings of the subject.
