𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐄𝐂𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐎 - 𝐓𝐄 𝐃𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐍𝐓 𝐀𝐑𝐆𝐔𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 (1/3) i wasn’t planning on making an argument for arlecchino, but the amount of INTJ votes is mind-boggling to me. why on earth would she be an ni dominant type? because she plans things out and is a mastermind? the stereotyping on this page is beyond saving. first of all, ni as jung describes it is a lot different than the “cold, mastermind” stereotype that pdb users have associated it with. one of the most important elements of ni is that it’s an introverted perceiving function. using jung, arlecchino being an ni dominant would mean that she’s an introverted, irrational type. let’s talk about what this means, starting with what an introverted type would look like and then zooming in on the introverted irrational type. 𝒊. 𝒑𝒊 𝒅𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒚 𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒐 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒇𝒊𝒕 𝒊𝒕 first of all, introverts -- as jung describes them -- are primarily focused on their internal world and processings. they prioritize mental energy over physical energy. irrational types are guided by what isn't based in reason. as pdb wiki states, > “if reason is that which is non-accidental, ordered, and measured, irrationality is that which is accidental, contingent, and based on chance.” introverted irrational types in specific -- types leading with an introverted perceiving function, or IxxJs in MBTI -- are described by jung as thus: ➣ “[introverted irrational types] are almost inaccessible to judgment from outside … to the extent that they do not understand themselves -- because they very largely lack judgment -- they are also powerless to understand why they are so constantly underestimated by the public.” ➣ “their [introverted irrational types] vision is enthralled by the richness of subjective events. what is going on inside them is so captivating, and of such inexhaustible charm, that they simply do not notice that the little they do manage to communicate contains hardly anything of what they themselves have experienced.” ➣ “from an extraverted and rationalistic standpoint, these types are indeed the most useless of men … the irrational introverted types are certainly no teachers of a more perfect humanity; they lack reason and the ethics of reason. but their lives teach the other possibility, the interior life which is so painfully wanting in our civilization.” essentially, they are primarily focused on their own subjective visions and wanderings, which makes them completely unrealistic, subjective, and difficult to communicate with. they lack judgment and rationality, and have difficulty navigating the external sphere. they live in their own minds. to put it bluntly, this doesn’t fit arlecchino at all. how exactly does she lack judgment or reason? how is she cognitively disconnected from the external world, unable to view reality objectively? arlecchino is one of the most rational, practical characters in genshin. she is primarily focused on organizing the external world; even in the way she runs the house of the hearth, we can see that she’s adept at evaluating things, objectively, through logic. and i know people are going to make the excuse “but INTJ’s have auxiliary te, so they can still do this!!”, but this isn’t true. unfiltered, dominant te is going to function (no pun intended) a lot differently than auxiliary te confined by a dominant perceiving function. 𝒊𝒊. 𝒏𝒊 𝒅𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒚 𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒐 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔𝒏'𝒕 𝒑𝒓𝒊𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒛𝒆 𝒊𝒕 a good example of an ni dominant character from genshin is raiden ei (NOT the shogun, for the record). ei is completely detached from the concrete world and obsesses over the metaphysical concept of “eternity”, willing to sacrifice everything in order to see her vision come to fruition. the reason why she’s unable to achieve her goal is because of how disconnected from reality it is. she can’t see that her subjective ideal and the overall way she perceives the world aren’t consistent with reality and the way the world works, despite her auxiliary te. the thing about dominant ni (or, honestly, just strong ni) is that it searches for something higher than itself. ei, as i mentioned in the previous example, is focused on the abstract ideal of eternity. arlecchino on the other hand doesn't have a vision for herself; rather, her perception is guided by her subjective sensory impressions. these influence the rules & systems she wants to enforce in her own life and in the house of the hearth. ni isn't focused or really based in the concrete world. it is focused on what could be and ignores the present reality to chase its ideal -- think of ei. arlecchino is nothing like this, and this is obvious upon analyzing her character. ➣ “arlecchino.’ pierro called out to her as she departed, and she turned around. ‘rather than dwelling on how the world is now, you should consider to where it should go.’ the sounds of her departing footsteps as she spun on her heel and kept walking were the only reply.”
