WKX: “It’s hard to read someone’s heart but easy to control human nature. Endless greed is human nature. This is an inarguable truth.” ZZS: “Lao Wen, don’t keep thinking that you understand human nature. First it was the Four Sages of Anji, and now Gao Chong. Have you not made enough mistakes? Being mistakenly stubborn will only harm yourself. Human nature is greedy, but can also be righteous and loyal.” I think this moment in episode 16 is a moment where ZZS’s more universal and impartial view of people and the world is shown quite well, in response to WKX. WKX is justifying his judgment of others from a reference point of the self, a contextual Fi/Te judgment, and ZZS takes a wider and more considerate stance (Fe/Ti), factoring in the numerous other judgments and variations of what people are like. Though not expressed in this moment, he views the world through a lens of these numerous other reference points and tries to reach some Ti universal principle that applies and encompasses all people, rather than letting his own personal sentiments skew this view, unlike WKX, who does exactly that. At least from where I’m at, the conflict between the two seems to stem from this in particular, from Michael Pierce: “The fair-minded (Fe/Ti) often feel that the goal-oriented (Te/Fi) don’t really think about anything, they just do whatever they feel without considering the consequences of their actions upon others or the community universe at large. The fair-minded have a sense that everything is connected so you can’t fix one thing without breaking something else. The goal-oriented feel that the fair-minded do not think for themselves and simply parrot or bow out to their community with no guarantee of being right.”
