Often, security is understood as a need for material and financial security, but it’s deeper than that. Fixated on Ego-Go, this fixation is located in the Heart triad aka Image Ego. Heart types are concerned with their relations and for E3, they’re aware of the fact that connections are necessary and could dictate their lives. E3 strives to be efficient, efficient in creating this connection and become someone else at a moment's notice in order to forge the connections that are required (Ichazo on Point 3). As the name implies, the fixation of Ego-Go is a cognitive distortion that one must perpetually move, perpetually “on-the-go” in order to be efficient and get the required connections to achieve success in live, constantly being someone else in order to forge connection, and constantly filtering the image they want to present to others to secure those connections. This fixation of constant deceit creates the passion of Vanity, the passionate concern in one’s image and living through the eyes of others (Character & Neurosis). Living for appearances implies that the focus of concern is not in one's own experience, but in the anticipation or fantasy of the experience of another, and thus the insubstantiality of the vain pursuit (Character & Neurosis). We could understand this passion as a pursuit of “the ideal life” according to outside’s standard, focusing on becoming the model person, and being successful in front of others. There is a lack of truthfulness in this type, since the vain pursuit of what is ideal makes E3 constantly deceive others with their presentation. However, E3’s deception isn’t lying or cunning deception; it is the lack of truthfulness regarding feelings and pretense (Character & Neurosis). Because of their focus on efficiency, they push back their inner feelings and project an image needed, pretending to be someone else. This is the E3’s deception that ends up deluding the E3 themselves, endlessly pursuing the goal to become a model person out of maintaining the idealized image in front of others, deluding themselves that they are the image they want to show. When this structure of constant deceit meets the conservation-related Self-Preservation instinct, this would create a conflicting character. A character that deceives themselves that they have to be the model person of a character, confusing their identity with what they do as a “model character” out of the need to ensure their safety and wellbeing. With this subtype, the Three’s ability to work hard, perform well and maintain the right image are placed in the service of material success. With considerable drive and energy, this subtype can accomplish goals of financial security, a nice home, etc. The danger is losing contact with one’s real self in this effort, and becoming overly identified with one’s role at work.
