edit #2: nvm i still agree with this >_< I’m going to start off this argument disproving Zen being sx3 because there are SO many things wrong with this. 3s are known to have the passion of deceit meaning that they are extremely obsessed with building and maintaining a certain image in others’ minds, usually going as far as exaggerating or even lying about themselves to achieve this. Zen doesn’t do this. Although he is image oriented in a sense, he does not feel the need to build a refined portrayal of himself like a 3 would. He is shown throughout the story to be very upfront about his emotions regarding literally everything whether that be of himself and his actions or the actions of others. For example his strong dislike of Jumin and his show of obvious distress and distrust when you stay with Jumin in his route. These blatant shows of emotion are out of character for a 3 core as e3 experiences a sort of emotional hollowness, never sure of what they want or need outside of playing on the image they’ve made of themselves. The sexual 3 subtype is especially not fitting for zen as the sx3 isn’t necessarily focused on or good at promoting themselves alone, they more so identify with individuals rather than “selling themselves” to a huge audience. The sx3 wants to attract but doesn’t necessarily want to deliver the “real” emotions that come with intimate relationships. Zen clearly is depicted to chase a relationship with the mc rather than “attracting” her and disregarding the more explicitly emotional aspects as a 3 would. Enneagram 3s defense mechanism is identification meaning that they find a person and sort of model themselves off of their idealization of them. Zen is never seen doing this and is shown as someone who values authenticity in himself and others. To my main argument of zen being a sx2. Enneagram 2’s passion is pride meaning that they will deny that of selfishness even when they think very highly of themselves and also depend heavily on the approval and applause of others to fuel their ego. They are excessively oriented towards romance, highly emotional, and known to be “superficial”. Zen fits the passion as he constantly uplifts himself and brags about himself while also denying any claim of selfishness or egotism. > He shows heavy orientation to romance and seduction as when mc first enters the chatroom one of the first things he asks is if they’re a woman and then he goes on to tell them his information so they can look him up and sending a picture of himself. Almost immediately zen is depicted as someone with nothing to hide and as someone who wants you to know who he is. > Based on your choices in the first chatroom zen also calls you cute several times and makes several more remarks about himself and his appearance. Another point is that e2’s fixation is flattery which means that instead of over-exemplifying their neediness, they project that onto others. This can be expressed in false generosity and invasiveness. > Zen expresses this as even when mc pursues other relationships in other routes or turns him down in his own he does not stop pursuing her, even stating that their absence of feelings only fueled his desire more (bad ending 1) and continues to have the mc stay with him despite their lack of care towards him. Lastly look to enneagram 2s defense mechanism, repression, meaning that 2s will unconsciously hide information(needs, desires, fears, aversions) about themselves from themselves. When they do this though, they don’t completely disregard that information, it instead finds its way out through the individual seeking to fix someone else’s problem or learn about their needs/desires. This can be seen in how, despite his obvious pride, Zen almost never explicitly conveys his aversions or worries to the mc but rather asks her if she’s okay, how she feels about the situation, etc. Zen is specifically the sexual subtype of e2 because he is more showing of his needs, more aggressive in his pursuit, and more dramatic in his seduction than other subtypes of 2. He shows himself as a “wild” type of guy to the mc and uses this as a way to draw them in. He’s also extremely straightforward(/aggressive) in his seduction as he just outright tells the mc how available and interested he is as well as sending various pictures of himself CONSTANTLY. sx2s aren’t calculated and prepared in their seduction either, they may be seen as fierce, unmanageable, and overly direct as a result of this, which is seen in Zen’s behavior throughout the duration of his and others’ routes. Zen (real name Hyun Ryu) is one of the main characters available through the Casual Story in Mystic Messenger. Zen is a semi-successful musical actor. He can come across as narcissistic about his looks, often posting selfies and exclaiming how handsome he is.
