What personality type is Linh Cinder? Linh Cinder is an ISTP personality type in MBTI, 5w6 - sp/so - in Enneagram, RLOAI in Big 5, in Socionics.

First, her MBTI is clearly ISTP. Her Ti+Se is clearly showed in one of her first scenes in Winter with Kai. She basically says all of her abilites come from her observations and deductions on her surroundings. Ti+Ne is not an option when you see her distate in brainstorming (Cress start ! When she meets Dr.Erland and just goes with the first option and no other second thought on it). As for her enneagram, 5 seems quite not logic. As a reminder here are 5's traits by Beatrice Chestnut in The Complete Enneagram : «The type 5 archetype withdraws into thinking and detaches from feeling as a way of taking refuge in the inner world. This functions as a way of finding privacy and freedom in a world that seems intrusive or neglectful or overwhelming.» And as for how they perceive their surroundings : «5 belong to the “head-based” triad associated with the core emotion of fear and a concern with safety. The personality of each of the three head types (Five, Six, and Seven) is shaped by its response to the early experience of fear.» This doesn't apply to Selene at all. None of her traumatic or life-changing experience are close to fear. For 5's, fear of the other. She's rather spontaneous and calm, with this point of clear sarcasm and hidden anger : to her, others, her adoption etc etc. Not in a envious way, but rather almost non-caring, detached... I think enneagram 9, self-pres, is the best for her. Here i wanna quote Claudio Naranjo : «Dorothy Sayers [...] writes that accidia “is insidious, and assumes such Protean shapes that it is rather difficult to define.” It is not merely idleness of mind, but “that whole poisoning of the will which, beginning with indifference and an attitude of ‘I couldn’t care less’, extends to the deliberate refusal of joy and culminates in morbid introspection and despair.» In the first book, Cinder shows all of these. She doesn't want go get involved in any way in anything. Even if it can clearly make her happy. But, another thing makes her closer to 9. First, this quote comes from the description of one of the trait structure of 9's: «Both self-alienation and abnegated over-adaptation involve resignation—a giving up of oneself, an abdication from oneself and from life. It is as if the individual endorsed a strategy of playing dead to stay alive (yet becoming tragically dead-in-life in the name of life).» «Different traits emerging from the clustering of descriptors have to do with being “robotic.” The over-adjusted are creatures of habit. They are bound by custom and regularity.» It is, totally, Cinder waiting for her to escape in the first book. she's willing to act blind to good things in her life because of how she perveives herself : in neo-beijing she doesn't have any WORTH and she needs to escape of it to "finally be alive". Now, for the instinctual variant, AND the defense mechanism in a deeper view, back to Chestnut : «The combination of the passion of laziness and the dominant instinct for self-preservation in Nines results in a personality subtype that Naranjo, following Ichazo, calls “Appetite.” The deeper motivation of this subtype of Type Nine is finding a sense of comfort in the world through the satisfaction of physical needs. This personality finds satisfaction in activities such as eating, reading, playing games, watching television, sleeping, or even working (if work is a comfortable thing to do). Whichever form of activity is chosen by a given Self-Preservation Nine, the key is that this Nine expresses his or her need to find protection and well-being by merging with an experience of the satisfaction of concrete needs.» Even in her royalty works, she fears how she'll adapt to this kind of lifestyle. She wants calm, she wants to be left in peace. She needs her needs to be met, and the Scarlet book is a perfect exemple for that. When people should be ENRAGED about how Levana treated them, feel injustice about being stole from childhood, she just rolls with it. Finally, for her BIG5, RCUEN makes the most sense to me. N and 9 are quite similar. She does nothing to be agreable in a big5 way. She rarely show signs of anxiety, immoderation and other signs of neuroticism on the IPIP300 and is, actually, really true to herself and others. Her inclination to organization or not is extremely thin in my opinion. Unorganized still suits her best but isn't her primarily inclination. Reserved makes sense, no need to explain.
