Personality

What personality type is Heather Mason? Heather Mason is an ISFP personality type in MBTI, 9w8 - sp/sx - 964 in Enneagram, RCUEN in Big 5, ESI in Socionics.

6w7 > 9w8 I argue that an Enneagram 6w7 typing is more accurate for Heather than a 9w8. Both an Enneagram 6 and a 9 both desire a peaceful life (which is where most people get their conclusion from), but their day-to-day mannerisms can significantly differ from one another. An enneagram core 9 is characterized as passive; even individuals with an 8 wing are very slow to react to negative stimuli. They are far less likely to become aggravated, feel less need to defend their “allies” (friends, family) and are less anxious, and defensive when they believe there are problems. This is because Enneagram 9s feel a stubborn unwillingness to be troubled or upset by conflict. As such, it will often take long periods of time for an E9 to show outward anxiety in an effort to keep a harmonious equilibrium. Heather does not fit into that dynamic much. She has a lot of trouble masking her emotions, and has no issue letting her feelings be known to others when it comes to perceived slights and threats. She is incredibly suspicious of others and does not trust easily. In fact, she has gained fame in the Silent Hill fanbase for being one of the only protagonists that does not let passively react to events. Heather is reactionary because she foremost distrusts the unknown, or any influence outside of those she trusts (which is just essentially her father). This is unlike, say, an Enneagram 8 that often reacts because they actively pursue justice. These reactions are a result of simply distrust, and and an inability to deal with immediate stressors without open antagonism. She has no problem being aggressive, and telling people exactly what she thinks and perceives about them (whereas even with a 9w8, it would take far longer for them to display irritation because it presents a direct threat to the personal harmony they seek to create). “I’m Douglas Cartland, I’m a detective.” “…A detective? Well, *nice* talking with you.” “Alyssa?” “Shut your stinking mouth, b****!” (Vincent makes fun of her father) “Don’t talk about my Dad like that!” “I am Claudia-“ “So what?” However, on the phone with her father (and later with Douglas once she establishes trust with him), she is shown to have a sense of humour, and is very carefree and relaxed in her interactions with them. I believe this is where Heather’s true personality lies; one that exists outside of the trauma. This is where her 7 wing comes from. Instead of isolating herself for introspection (which a 6w5 would certainly do), she places great value on her trust and interactions with others. She is also more risk-friendly, and adaptable in her journey, where a 6w5 would need time to isolate and withhold time and energy to adapt to their surroundings. As for the alternate Enneagram 8 consensus, I also disagree. I certainly agree that she has a strong 8 fix, but her central fear isn’t being controlled, and she isn’t actively seeking justice. I would instead argue, that this impulsivity comes secondary to her value of loyalty, and significant relationships. Otherwise she would have rejected her father and his incredibly controlling grip over her childhood (which was all for good reason, but it would still be unbelievably restrictive). However, Heather shows no resentment towards her father, even when did not know the entire truth concerning her birth and the cult hunting her down. She certainly hates being told what to do and is very impulsive in acting out (just look at her interactions with anyone else in the story), but that comes second to her loyalty to those she trusts. So with that being said, Heather (Alyssa) Mason fits more with an Enneagram 6w7 typing.
