What personality type is May (Haruka)? May (Haruka) is an ESFJ personality type in MBTI, 3w2 - sx/so - 397 in Enneagram, SLOAN in Big 5, ESE in Socionics.
After rewatching AG, I would definitely say that May is an ESFJ rather than an ENFP. I have not yet seen anyone explain her cognitive functions in detail yet, so I will explain my argumentation on how she uses Fe, Si and Ne. Fe: May very much bases her decision making on others' input and validation instead of listening to her own inner motivations and values, like a Fi user would. When Harley gives her bad advice on purpose, she follows it without any hesitation whatsoever. Drew, a Fi-users, ends up criticizing her about this, as this is in stark contrast to his own way of doing things as a coordinator: listening to his own inner voice and values. At the end of Battle Frontier, May tells him that she aims to develop herself more as a coordinator by finding a style that is hers and hers alone and, therefore, taking her inner voice and values more into account. Si: At the end of Battle Frontier, Brock remarks that May is excellent at remembering past information regarding earlier battles and contests and putting that information into practice for her own strategies. She uses this function very well. One limitation, however, that May encountered by basing her strategies on past information, is the fact that her battle style very closely started to resemble Ash's. It is also for this reason that she aimed to develop her own unique style. Ne: May uses the information she has in mind with Si to create new and innovative strategies and moves with Ne. It is especially during contests that she has proven herself to be a quick and creative thinker, although she can also be somewhat impulsive at times.
Biography
Starting the Advanced series as a newbie trainer, May only wanted to travel the world at first. She initially disliked Pokémon before experience around them changed her mind. She aspires to be a Pokémon Coordinator, leading towards a quest similar to Ash's.
