Personality

What personality type is Frank Darabont? Frank Darabont is an INFP personality type in MBTI, 4w5 - sp/sx - 459 in Enneagram, in Big 5, in Socionics.

Until today, I did not realize two of my favourite films: The Shawshank Redemption and The Mist, had the same director. Perhaps since I knew they were both adapted from Stephen King works, I didn't really notice much past that. But considering how impactful both of these movies were for me, I must mention something here. King is typed as INTP 5w4, notably the same type as Lovecraft, and in The Mist, Lovecraft's influence is apparent. However that personality type seems to be drawn towards cosmic horror and nihilistic storytelling. Reading Lovecraft certainly doesn't put you in a feelgood state, and even might make you question reality in a rather depressing way. However, Darabont does something rather interesting with the source material. I will admit I have not read the King books, but I know that the ending of The Mist is different in the movie. In contrast, Darabont is INFP 4w5 which are known for being existentialist. Like Albert Camus who stated life is absurd, and we must learn to love it despite this, like Sisyphus pushing the boulder up the mountain over and over. One can find the struggle too difficult and repetitive to endure, or they can find fulfillment in it. Shawshank is a brilliant example. Andy Dufresne could have given up hope, but he endured like Sisyphus, always striving towards his goal no matter the setback. The parallel is pretty apt here, as he literally hammered on rock night by night. The Mist is a bit of an inversion of this; Whereas Shawshank is a tale of hope, The Mist is a warning against losing hope. The end of the Mist is one of the best endings ever. I won't spoil it. I don't think any movie ending has made quite the impact on me as this one. Existentialism is a sort of response to nihilism. We can accept a grim reality without being consumed by it. We must never give up hope. Hang in there.
