WTF DO THE SOCIAL 6 VOTES MEAN??? Naranjo describes the Social 6 as a rigid disciplinarian who finds security in structure, order, rules and community, they are also many times described as being able to come off as cold and distant. "The Social Six is a stronger character that the Self-Preservation Six, and this greater strength has to do with having more certainty than uncertainty. The Self-Preservation Six is an insecure person-they hesitate because they are not sure. The Social Six is someone who, in defense against the insecurity associated with not being sure, becomes too sure. They can-in the extreme-become "true believers" or fanatics. In the counterphobic Sexual Six, fear is turned into its opposite when the person adopts a stance of strength, but in the Social Six, "it is not fear that is turned into an opposite, but doubting." - Beatrice Chestnut Andy is, in fact, a Self-Pres 6. They are nicknamed "warmness" because their phobic stance drives them to be friendly and warm with people with the intent of getting people on their side to support and protect them. They are anxious, and have a friendly yet nervous quality. "In contrast to the Self-Preservation Six, who gets stuck in ambivalence and can't make decisions, Social Sixes have an intolerance of ambiguity. They fear ambivalence and have little tolerance of uncertainty, because to them, uncertainty equals anxiety." - Beatrice Chestnut Would a rigid, decisive, rule-following disciplinarian get stuck in an affair whilst engaged to somone else, and being uncapable to make a decision because of their tendency to fear and hesitate??? "These Sixes (Self-Preservation) seek to escape anxiety by seeking the security of protection; therefore, they become dependent on others. They have a passion for compensating for the fear of separation, which manifests as warm and friendly temperament. Their driving need is therefore for something like (neurotic) friendship or warmth, which makes this subtype the warmest of these Sixes. They tend to be in a good mood and have a generally pleasant disposition. They look for a bond of intimacy and trust in their relationships, and they fear disappointing others, especially those who are closest to them. Being warm is their way of getting people to be friendly so they won't be attacked." - Beatrice Chestnut His fear of disappointing and separation is ultimately what made him, for a very long time, not end his relationship with either Beth nor Haley, and although he tried with Haley a few times he always hesitated (Self-Pres 6 indecisiveness and hesitancy) and fell back into the affair again. He was only able to talk to Beth after 2 things happened: 1. Phil, a man who is, for Andy, a respectable authority figure/mentor (or even father figure, I might say), discovered things and talked some sense into him (fitting with 6's need for guidance and compliance to authority or father figures); and 2. He discovered Beth also had, not one, but two affairs, and even though he himself had one, he clearly felt betrayed, which also is a HUGE deal for 6s, who extremely fear betrayal and untrustworthiness.
