Biography
Armando Uribe Arce (October 28, 1933 – January 23, 2020) was a Chilean writer, poet, lawyer, and diplomat. In 1997, Uribe decided to cloister himself socially, following the thinking of Blaise Pascal. He lived waiting for the moment of his death in his apartment in front of the Parque Forestal in Santiago. About his longing for death, he said: "That is evident to everyone. The difference is that I can manifest it or say it to others, in which there are some tricks. Because if I in writing, and in verse for worse, mention death so many times and manifest the fact of disappearing from this world, one would have to wonder if I do not do it to exorcise my own death, rather than to delight in it. One might wonder if I do not do it majestically as a form of vanity, imposing the announcement of my own death to third parties in writing, rather than the funereal particularity of what I say".
