As probably most of us came from the same video, I really dislike how people say his art is not real art because it doesn't have "depth." He wasn't a good person at all, but that has nothing to do with his actual artwork. Calling his art kitschy and therefore not good art is so silly. It still takes effort and talent to create art like that, even in the case of it being created for mass marketing. It doesn't seem like it started as a way to make lots of money for him, but he went that route when he realized he could make tons of money through it and became corrupt. Which is disappointing because as far as talent goes he did have a lot of it, and many people would have been willing to buy it without him going to the measures he did.

William Thomas Kinkade III (January 19, 1958 – April 6, 2012) was an American painter of popular realistic, pastoral, and idyllic subjects. He is notable for his success, during his lifetime, with the mass marketing of his work as printed reproductions and other licensed products via the Thomas Kinkade Company. According to Kinkade's company, one in every twenty American homes owns a copy of one of his paintings.
