He looks like an ISTP physically but he behaves like a very clear ISTJ. - The way he teaches her Chess is Si - Te. Very practical, he teaches her what moves she's supposed to make, but doesn't explain why. - The "when you lose your Queen, you resign" is very Si - Te - Fi. Nonsensical unwritten rule (Si) he treats as a fact (Te) and imposes on her (Tertiary Fi), he doesn't even have a reason for it. It's just "the way it is". - The way he carries himself around people is very typical of SJs, they tend to put themselves in charge around people they deem to be their social inferior as well as act submissive around people they deem to be their social superior. Just look at his body language and overall behavior when the high school teacher (his social superior) is in the basement compared to the rest of the time, when only Beth (a child, his social inferior) is. He looks like 2 different people, an ISTP would be far more consistent and act roughly the same way.
