What personality type is Tolui? Tolui is an ESFP personality type in MBTI, 8w7 - - in Enneagram, in Big 5, SEE in Socionics.
Guys his whole motivation is helping his family succeed and being worthy in their eyes, this guy is a sx3w2 or another image type. More arguments below *SEVERE* SPOILERS FOR THE ANIME UP TO EPISODE 10 I’ll start with restating that we’ve never seen Tolui struggling/unhealthy and that makes it a lot harder to type him. Nothing about his backstory, how he deals with problems, etc… At least from how far I've reached in the manga. Plus he died pretty soon in the manga and I’m pretty sure that his death will be animated in season 1 of the anime (edit: it did). So, I won’t condemn anyone who has a different vote. But yeah, from what I've seen and from my reasoning, Tolui’s whole motivation is succeeding and being the best for his family. -In the very first interaction he had with Sitara, he glorifies his father: “As the sun touches the whole world, so everything on it belongs to my father, the great Genghis Khan!” -Then he ransacked Fatima’s and Sitara’s home just for a book Sorgaghtani asked for, -Regretted that he couldn’t make Sorgaghtani empress, -Was extremely supportive of Ögedei becoming the next Khagan, -He even sacrificed himself for Ögedei too, saying that the empire will enter a new era with a wiser ruler like him. The whole Jin arc solidifies my stance on this, there are scenes like: -When he spoke up in the Kurultai, -In ch 17 when a soldier says their victory will please Ögedei and Tolui perks up, -Tolui’s smile when Ögedei was proud after his victory. Tomato Soup sensei put some emphasis on that panel specifically. These examples are almost always tied to success for his family. It seems like he curated his actions to fit what his family wants out of him. This can look very different depending on the family but since he’s the Otchigin, son of Genghis Khan, and was expected to play a part in expanding the empire, expand it he did, but only for the family. "Sexual Threes achieve within relationships. These Threes are pleasers and helpers; they tend to work hard in support of someone else, expending a lot of energy in promoting others. Sexual Threes can be very ambitious and hardworking, but it’s always to make someone else look good." -Chestnut's description of sx3. He also values his image (in his family’s eyes) over control and autonomy, shown in how he was glad to give away his authority as regent to Ögedei, so that’s my argument against him being an E8, though he definitely has an 8-fix in his tritype. Also, him being honest and blunt doesn’t refute him being an E3. He may seem tactless but just look at how different he acts with Sitara in ep2 vs his brothers in ep3. Honesty and bluntness is just another way for E3s to better their image, not a contradiction to their motivations. He’s honest with his brothers because he’s close to them and knows it’s safe to be that way with them. As for the E2 wing, he clearly presents himself as loving and caring to his family instead of thinking himself as unique and one of a kind. That one's obvious. The thing that trips me up though is that Tolui is never worried if he’s truly valued/successful/impressive to his family compared to others. He’s never shown to be insecure about that. He’s super confident and unserious at times. That’s why I briefly considered 7w6 and 2w3 before (although he does have E2 as his wing and definitely has a strong 7-fix in his tritype). In conclusion, he seems to be an extremely healthy and secure sx3w2 whose motivation/goal is to help his family succeed and be good in their eyes in whatever way possible.
