Like with Killua, these enneagram votes are slightly off. Gon is happy, honest and go-lucky, but in no way dealing with a need for "fun" as much as one for strength. The entire story is dedicated to this: Gon's relentless optimism, instinct and persistence in the face of constant struggles and attempts of others to throw him off his goal. He doesn't move away from a "lack" towards a more fun state of mind in a type 7 fashion, but sets a goal and does whatever he can to meet it. He doesn't even consciously allow for the possibility of NOT meeting it; it will happen, and there's no question about it. He doesn't seek new experiences "for fun" as much as in an effort to become stronger. This is how he meets his many friends and how the contrast between them becomes starkly obvious: Killua perfectly balancing out Gon's naivety, casting doubt and suspicion in every corner where Gon wouldn't even guess to look because he's just too quick to act, essentially "thinking for him". Or Hisoka, who chased Gon around simply because Gon could offer him a new experience and satisfy his need for a "worthy opponent"; not for some higher goal, learning experience or need to be strong and take others under his wing like Gon does. Everything he does is motivated by strength, will, persistence and endurance; he is a type 8, not 7.
Biography
Gon Freecss (ゴン゠フリークス, Gon Furīkusu) is a Rookie Hunter and the son of Ging Freecss. Finding his father is Gon's motivation in becoming a Hunter. Gon is an athletic, rustic, and friendly boy who is searching for adventure. His flaws lie in his temper and impulsive nature. Gon sometimes fails to think things through and such actions lead to him suffering. Though possessing talent far beyond the norm for his age, anytime his abilities are challenged, he feels as if he has to prove his antagonist wrong. He continually strives to obtain greater power, often becoming exceptionally stronger in his anger. But Gon's anger also leads to some extremely reckless tendencies. When his emotions are ignited, Gon becomes irrational and completely oblivious to anything else.
