The thing is that 7 doesn't make sense as a core because Luffy doesn't run from negative stuff in any way, he just enjoys things which he wants to enjoy. Enjoying stuff and having fun =/= 7. Also most peope don't even vote for subtypes because they clearly have no clue what is it and as a consensus that is settled rn (soc7) is obnoxious. You really think this mf is doing funny **** and vote for a subtype that goes against Gluttony? The way soc8 would work is that this character usually stands for others not for enjoyment or for the ideals (as would 7 and basically soc7 do), but for people. The way Luffy goes against authorities is not 7ish, as 7s rebel for pleasure and so they can enjoy stuff (also, even if they rebel, they don't really go against authority in oppositional way, but with diplomatic approach, which is totally not about Luffy that goes for beating anyone no matter what) and 8s rebel usually because of injustice (mainly talking about soc8 as most people are not certain with subtype for ennea and i'm pretty certain about my vote). You can see that Luffy doesn't go for beating everyone's ass just so he is free and no one stops him from enjoying stuff, he clearly goes against those, who is ruining people's lives and helps them mostly because he wants people to be free from such authorities (Doffy, Kaido, anyone who was shown in the show as a cruel authority). Also want to mention his overconfident behaviour pre-timeskip as 8s (even soc8) has a a delusionary beliefs that they can do anything and beat anyone, and when they get crashed into the wall, they are very angry about it as they believed they have enough strength to beat anyone. 7s wouldn't dwell on that much as they would just move to other stuff as they wouldn't really care if they had enough strength for protecting people or no. Biography
An ambitious yet kind and rather dense young man who has eaten the Gum-Gum Fruit (Gomu Gomu no Mi), turning him into a rubber man. He dreams of following in the footsteps of his childhood hero, Captain "Red-Haired" Shanks, by becoming a great pirate. In fact, he plans to find the titular treasure and become the new "Pirate King." Said treasure was left by Gold Roger, the greatest pirate who ever lived and the previous Pirate King, and his dying words have spurred the world of One Piece into an age of piracy, as pirates from all around the world set sail for the Grand Line, the place where the One Piece is most likely hidden.
