Why do people think enneagram 8? Tywin’s main desire is linked to lust and the pursuit of sensory pleasure? How can that be the case when his ultimate desire is linked to establishing a standard into the world given how that desire is partially idealistic and not rooted in sensation? Tywin’s ultimate desire is prestige, legacy, and doing things in line with a dogmatic standard of ideal Lannister conduct. Where is the lust? Lust doesnt come in this form of ideals or abstracts, lust is rooted in the concrete here and now of how can I enhance this experiences sensation. Think Bronn for a second. Always in the present, not concerned with ideas or concepts unless it serves his need for sensation in some way. He lives for the moment and the pleasures of life. He lives for the sake of liking to live, and finds solace in activities of high intensity, and is ever present. Tywin on the other hand is just as present as he is focused on the intellectual system by which the world operates. He isnt oriented by the present for its own sake or carnal pleasures, but rather he is motivated by the system by which the present is working and what he can enact on it. There is by no means an argument, imo, to indicate that Tywin’s primary orientation is to exist in the present for the lust found in concrete pleasure. All too often we tend to project the idea of the ambitious, ruthless cold and influential figure as the 8 because power. In reality the 8 is the simple man or woman with simple wants and needs. They want to live life enjoy themselves doing what they want to do. They want to be free to do as they please. This is practically anti Tywin Lannister who even has the nerve to preach to Jaime how he puts aside his own interests for what is representative of a “good man”.
