Personality

What personality type is Akane Tsunemori? Akane Tsunemori is an INFJ personality type in MBTI, 1w2 - sp/so - 162 in Enneagram, RCOAI in Big 5, EII in Socionics.

I will explain why I think Akane is 6 instead of 1 or 9. Part 1: Why 6 Throughout season 1, we see that Akane grapples with fear and doubt rather than with anger or sloth. Akane was created as a protagonist who would stand in for the audience that wrestles with themes such as justice, crime, potential/ intent vs. action, and individual needs vs. societal good. Such themes fit the head triad more than the gut triad or heart triad. We see her mentally grapple with the implications of the truth behind the Sybil System and the consequences if the truth were revealed. Her agony over the purpose of her existence and her curiosity about latent criminals and Sybil indicate her theoretical orientation. Her nature as a problem solver and a truth seeker who get to the heart of every case also points to type 6. Sometimes Akane is able to come up with solutions on the spot, such as when she stuns Kogami in her first assignment to prevent him from killing an assault victim. Other times she has struggled with being unable to act in decisive, tense moments. In one scene, Shougo takes Akane's friend hostage but Akane freezes, can't decide what to do, and blames herself afterwards. How Akane acted feels like how a head type would have acted as opposed to a gut type that would have taken physical action. The following traits of sp6 fit her well: warm to be likeable and therefore safe, seeking and giving warmth, hospitable, generous, and exaggerated faithfulness. We see her becoming friends with many of her colleagues and extending compassion to Kogami and Masaoka despite warnings from Ginoza. As a side note, even her mottos resemble stereotypical sayings of a 6: - "Faith strengthens people." - "Protect the things you believe in 'til the end." Part 2: Why not 1 Where do we see Akane's chronic frustration with herself and her society for not living up her standards? Where do we see Akane's reaction formation and obsessive perfectionistic tendencies? While Akane gets angry and disagrees with those around her multiple times, she is not driven by a rage against a flawed system and a compulsion to be perfect and make her surroundings perfect. While she has her inner sense of what's right or wrong and does her best to excel at her job, she is not demanding and critical of herself and others as Ginoza is. Instead she seeks to question and understand things around her with an open mind instead of quickly finding fault. Part 3: Why not 9 Akane isn't disengaged with her inner self or compulsive about preserving her stability and comfort. While she is good-natured, helpful, and adaptable, she does not shut down her thoughts and feelings to maintain inner or external peace. She is not concerned about preserving her comfort and balance and focusing on concrete, practical matters. As opposed to seeking immediate success on the job or a sense of community or fellowship with her colleagues, she goes beyond what's expected of a new Inspector to find the truth behind each case and to share a nuanced way of understanding latent criminals and the Sybil System.
