Ariadne MBTI Personality Type

Personality

What personality type is Ariadne? Ariadne is an INTP personality type in MBTI, 5w4 - sp/sx - 514 in Enneagram, RCUEI in Big 5, ILI in Socionics.

When I think of the concept of world-building, the first two types that come to mind are INFP and INTP. Both types have a conscious Ne function that can expand the realm of possible elements of the world or warp the existing elements into something new, and if their Si is developed enough, or if they at least have enough time to work through the problem, they can integrate and sequence the ideas while filling in detail. (The two ES-J types can do this as well, but because their cognition is ultimately oriented towards the objective world rather than their own subject, their projects are less self-contained and self-sustaining; they are more integrated with the real world and tied to real-world considerations.) While we certainly can't rule out the possibility that Ariadne is INFP, I think INTP makes more sense. Her character works as a gateway for the audience into the ideas of the movie because her focus is on "how this works" rather than "how this makes you or I feel". Her framework for the three dream levels seems to focus more on structure than sentiment – or at least this is how Nolan depicts it. There isn't any expository dialogue that focuses on qualities such as the "character" of the dream spaces or any emotional qualities that the structures are designed to evoke within the dreamers. She is also quick to pick up on the fact that Cobb frequently says one thing and does another. Ti tends to pick up on logical inconsistencies or contradictions more than the Feeling functions do. When Ariadne does engage with elements related to Feeling, it is usually because she is being forced to. Her suspicion of Cobb’s subconscious, her desire for the group to function properly, and her curiosity all drive her to discover more and more of the truth, drawing Cobb's problems out into the objective sphere; but beyond this, she limits her assistance to stern rebukes and challenges. Overall, she doesn’t seem interested in engaging with Cobb on a level that is more directly sympathetic, an indication that Fe is low in her function stack.
