Personality

What personality type is Vash the Stampede? Vash the Stampede is an ENFP personality type in MBTI, 9w1 - so/sx - 972 in Enneagram, SLUAI in Big 5, IEE in Socionics.

ARGUMENT WHY VASH CANNOT BE A TYPE 7 AND TYPE 9 FITS MORE. 1/7 (Skip to 5/7 mark if you just want the explanation for type 9) The wiki states that "Vash displays throughout both the manga and the anime two very distinct personalities. Initially, Vash usually exaggerates foolish characteristics to make people feel un-threatened and to hide his identity, as well as using these outrageous actions and chronic kindness as a way to mask his own pain (as noticed by Millie). He exhibits an almost obsessive love of doughnuts, engages in lecherous behavior, plays games with the local children and aids and befriends the adults." And "Vash's other side is an utterly tormented and lonely being and is rarely shown when he is in the company of others. Due to his long life and legendary (and infamous) reputation, Vash has lost both a great many friends and his only family. In several instances (as implied by Luida) people he trusted have either betrayed him or been killed for simply knowing him. " "Thus, he is often prone to brooding and depression whilst alone or engaging in deep introspective thought." Observing Vash it can be seen that he is a pleasure seeker that spends his time drinking, having fun and wasting time but there is more deep to him then what meets the eye. At first glance his jolly nature and fun loving attitude can have him pass as a type 7. It should be obvious right? What other type he could be? His idealistic views and pleasure seeking should be more than enough proof. One thing I notice alot when I observe when people type characters is the lack of research into the depth of such character. If he is fun loving he must be a type 7. Or if he seeks intensity he must be a type 8! I am not saying these options are wrong as having these traits would fit a character in a limited range of the 9 types. However where is the study of underlying motivations? And what's the proof? I have been disliked and blocked from a few users when I point out the inconsistencies in this type of reasoning. But to reach a logical conclusion such depth must be explored. The type sx 4 seek intensity just as much as the sx type 8. The sp 9 seeks as much pleasure as the sp 7. These traits are not enough to reach a conclusion. What makes a type different from the rest are motivations, fixations, and deep core desires. (But enough of my rant and back to the argument.) So what's vash motivation? Is it in align with the type 7? Naranjo explains that the type 7 (all subtypes included) are at their core narcissistic and gluttonous which is their fixation. They want more of everything to the excess and they are focused on only benefiting themselves. Whether the so sx or sp, the type 7 seeks to take advantage of situations of gain material comforts (sp), escape from suffering through ideals (sx) or attention and praise (so). Naranjo writes:"Because of this, their pretended superiority is implicit rather than explicit, masked over by a non-assuming, appreciative, and equalitarian style. As in the case of pleasingness, the superiority of ennea-type VII expresses only a half of the glutton’s experience; the other is the simultaneous perception of self as inferior, and the corresponding feelings of insecurity. As in ennea-type V, in both cases splitting allows the simultaneity of the two sub-selves, yet while it is the deprecated self that is in the foreground in type V, it is the grandiose self that has the upper hand in narcissistic personality. A psychological characteristic that is important to mention in connection with the gratified narcissism of the “oral-receptive” is charm, a quality into which converge the admirable qualities of ennea-type VII (giftedness, percep-tiveness, wit, savoir-vivre, and so on) and its pleasing, non-aggressive, vaseline-like, cool, and contented characteristics. Through charm the glutton can satisfy his gluttony as effectively as a fisherman succeeds with bait, which implies that pleasing and charm are not just seductive but manipulative. Through his great charm the glutton can enchant others and even himself. Among his skills is that of fascination—hypnotic fascination even—and charm is his magic." In short the type 7 is only of the most selfish and self seeking types on the enneagram with every motivation, desire and underlying personal goal centered around this narcissism and fixation on gluttony. About gluttony Naranjo writes: "
