starting to think willow might be SO4. she's got a lot of E6 in her, of course, but at the core of her character is a deep sense of inferiority, shame, and low self-worth. she latches onto the role of buffy's techy witchy best friend, good for problem solving & emotional support alike, and freaks out when she feels underappreciated or taken for granted. she repeatedly uses her close relationships to give herself some value (with buffy, oz, xander, and *especially* tara), because she fundamentally believes she's worth nothing on her own. a major theme of her character is performance, costuming, & identity, all of which are explicitly heart triad themes. and she's not carefully assembling her costume for a specific purpose like an E6 would; rather, she comes into it unconsciously but begins to rely on that newfound confident self-representation of hers as a shield, while also secretly fearing that none of it is real, that she's nothing more than the shy, scared, submissive, softer side of sears girl from high school (as we see represented literally in her restless dream). on a more surface level, she's also very emotionally driven & is often unaware of how her emotions impact those around her, she doesn't mean to hurt anyone but her outbursts of anger/grief/shame often have consequences. she fits E6 as a core type to some extent, but she doesn't really fit any of the subtypes (& honestly i can't see her as SP dom in general, SO fits her perfectly in my opinion). at her core she feels driven by the aforementioned shame & inferiority, along with a deep need for the love and acceptance of others, which all fits the heart triad perfectly. i will also add, her gradual transition from powerless bullied teenager to power-hungry witch who goes way too far in service of finally feeling like she's worth something, finally feeling like she can *do* something after being pushed around & belittled & dismissed her entire life... is all incredibly 3V. (and a less relevant point, but i've always thought willow and spike had a certain level of mutual, unspoken respect for each other—given that both of them are emotionally intense, needy, dramatic people who use costumes to hide from their deep insecurities & feelings of low self-esteem. spike is SX4, and i see his and willow's characters as being rather similar in a lot of ways, so it would just be poetic if they were the same core type.)
Biography
Willow (portrayed by #AlysonHannigan) was originally a nerdy girl who contrasted Buffy's cheerleader personality but also shared the social isolation Buffy suffered after becoming a Slayer. As the series progressed, Willow became a more assertive and even sensual character; in particular, she realized that she was a lesbian and became a powerful Wiccan. Willow is Buffy's best friend through everything that happens and maintains her humanity and kindness to others throughout.
