What personality type is Stoick the Vast? Stoick the Vast is an ESTJ personality type in MBTI, 8w9 - so/sp - 863 in Enneagram, SLOAN in Big 5, LSE in Socionics.

another fantastic character from this amazing franchise. stoick is very well-developed character through the three movies and tv show. he’s a great way to represent an ESTJ developing their Ne-Fi. Te: stoick values rational intelligence and getting the job done. for him, dragons are the enemy that is hurting the people he has vowed to protect (type 8 anyone?). due to this, it makes him an efficient dragon slayer. he is organized and makes decisions that will benefit his people rather than appeal to them emotionally. Si: stoick is stuck in his old viking ways. he represents the typical tough and fierce viking chief. and he enjoys the “tried and true” method which in his case means killing dragons. because dragons have always been an enemy to vikings and stoick has never thought to question it. it’s also what hurts his relationship with hiccup, because he expects hiccup to conform into the viking ways. but even in the beginning of the movie, stoick admits that hiccup is nothing like him. he also enjoys talking about favorite old memories. such as talking about how when he was a baby he smashed his head into a rock, and the rock broke. it’s also what makes him stay loyal to valka 20 years after her disappearance. he hangs onto her memory and their marriage no matter how long it’s been. Ne: stoick’s Ne is underdeveloped in the first movie. because it’s underdeveloped it causes issues between him and hiccup (Ti-Ne). he is resistant to the new possibility that dragons may be good and that they are just controlled by an evil dragon. when stoick learns about the red death, he resorts into his old ways (Te-Si) and decides to gather an army to kill it rather than listen to hiccup’s plan. after the first film, stoick has developed his Ne much better. he makes more jokes and is less reserved with his affections towards his family. he is more considerate to hiccup and welcomes valka into his arms despite their 20 year separation. he also makes jokes about astrid being his “future daughter-in-law” despite hiccup and astrid not even being engaged. Fi: stoick certainly struggles with his feelings. throughout the entire first movie, he struggles to convey his love for his son. his only way of showing affection was to give his a viking hat and put him in dragon training instead of listening to what hiccup wanted. this is another sign of how stoick’s (Te-Si) made him ignorant and almost selfish towards hiccup. his fi grip definitely shows in the first movie. during his fight with hiccup at the end of the movie, stoick irrationally says, “your not my son” after he feels hiccup has betrayed him. but there is a moment of regret when he realizes the weight of what he said. but due to his inferior fi, stoick gets back to work and goes off to fight the red death (Te). but when stoick cares and values someone, they become family to him. stoick’s repressed Fi comes out when he saves toothless from drowning and apologizes to his son in the first movie. he does what he knows best (Si) (breaking toothless from his chains using his strength) and then shows his small Fi in apologizing to hiccup.
