What personality type is King Triton? King Triton is an ESTJ personality type in MBTI, 8w9 - so/sp - in Enneagram, in Big 5, LSI in Socionics.
Im assuming people type him as 8 because he gets angry and is controlling but he really doesn’t show many 8 traits, if not at all. I don’t even think its in his tritype. The main focus of the character is on tradition and rules, why does he get angry? Because his daughter is constantly breaking the rules he set for her and the rest of the kingdom. Its clear that he views humans are barbaric and dangerous and him not wanting his people near them is out of fear (due to the tragic passing of his wife at the hands of humans.) He doesnt set rules for the sake of power and control (which 8s desire) but for the safety (which 6 desires) of his daughters and his people. They find safety by relying on authorities, or on the "authority of reason, rules, and rational thinking.” edit: another reason i realized he fits 6 better is his doubt of his own actions. after he destroys Ariel’s grottel, you can see the remorse on his face after then later asks Sebastian if he was too harsh on her. the other traits seem self explanatory! Also, I don’t think he’s just choleric. he has a very cheerful and sunny dispoition at first glance, not just cold, driven choleric. I think its worth considering choleric-sanguine or even sanguine-choleric. someone who gets mad easily doesn’t mean they’re choleric dominant (or an 8..)
Biography
King Triton, also known as the Sea King, is a major character in Disney's 1989 animated feature film The Little Mermaid. He is the ruler of Atlantica, an undersea kingdom inhabited by merpeople. As king, he wields the all-powerful mystical trident, which grants him control over the oceans. By his late wife Queen Athena, he is also a widowed father to seven daughters, the most notable of which is Ariel. Equal parts over-protective and well-meaning, Triton initially disapproves of Ariel's admiration for the human world on account of his misanthropy.
