What personality type is Kate Beckett? Kate Beckett is an INTJ personality type in MBTI, 6w5 - sp/so - 164 in Enneagram, RCOEI in Big 5, LSI in Socionics.
never understood the ISTJ votes tbh. i've seen arguments before saying that because she's "obsessed with her mother's death" or "a stickler for the "rules" in a case" (especially in the sense of wanting hard evidence & what not) that makes her a dom si user... but no it doesn't??? i actually never saw any indication of high si... she's not caught up in past impressions/experiences, or continuing to follow certain habits out of comfort, or whatever else. (if anything, i'd call ryan the si user, especially with inf ne that castle seems to bring out of him - like how, as the show goes on, ryan starts to theorize more & more the way castle does, & kind of becomes the team's "backup brainstormer" in a way. but of course he's not as skilled as castle, a dom ne user, is.) just because she's obsessed with her mother's death doesn't mean si. that can just as easily be ni, because kate wants (more like NEEDS) to know the truth about what happened more than anything (as well as bring the killer to justice) - that can easily be ni wanting the truth plus fi with following her morals & doing what she considers is the "right" thing. at one point she even point blank tells castle that "she cannot move forward with her life until she closes her mom's case" & it's true. she can't of course. but i do find it interesting that she's self aware enough to know that, because that also indicates ni in being able to step back & self evaluate the way she did (just like how she originally refused to re-open her mother's case because she KNEW she would go down the rabbit hole & KNEW she probably couldn't make herself stop a second time). also she always theorized way too easily with castle. i think their arguments came from having the exact opposite functions of each other - castle being ne-ti & beckett being ni-te. castle was always MORE than happy to go off on his little theories as far as he possibly could, until beckett would interject with her "not possible" type of lines & try to reign him back in. she was always trying to focus him, & was the one who would ALWAYS step back & look at the BIG PICTURE of the case, & would even often know when something was "off" with a case without ANY evidence. (meanwhile, esposito, the high se user, rarely ever theorizes because he really only cares about what he can see with his own eyes most of the time & ryan, the high si user, doesn't bother theorizing at first & just finds it rather amusing until a couple seasons in when he starts tapping into his inf ne & begins to try to spout off theories like castle does, but he's not as good at it because he has inf ne.) beckett would EASILY theorize with castle whenever it was REALISTIC & PROBABLE. that's easily ni-te vs ne-ti - ne goes off into la la land with ideas, while ni (plus te) checks them all for plausibility & is more than happy to entertain the realistic ideas. whenever one of them had a realistic idea, beckett would theorize as far as she could, with castle's help as he would bring in new ideas that sometimes would either end up right or would help beckett realize the right answer. meanwhile, the reason beckett cared so much about "evidence" & "procedure" is still ni. she knows that in order to arrest & convict the killer, she's going to need the evidence & it's going to need to be solid so it stands up in court. she cares about those things because she wants that end result to work. but beckett also just as easily would steer the case in the direction that her gut told her to; she was fantastic at getting a "read" on the suspects & would often say whether the suspect was guilty or innocent before either interrogating them or before the evidence came in (always literally calling it her "gut"). she also just as easily would identify the killer almost immediately after meeting them or interrogating them, despite having NO evidence or even indication of it, all because she trusted those hunches. she let those hunches guide her plenty of times on cases, & usually ended up being right. i also don't ever remember seeing any signs of inf ne??? hell, the more stressed beckett got, the more i saw her dip into some inf se. beckett would get pretty reckless at times - especially when going after her mother's killer. she would just barrel straight ahead, obsession triggered, not caring about stepping back & seeing the whole picture. she nearly gets herself killed a few times because of her recklessness in pursuing the killer. & the team has to try to pull her back in a few times too, but castle is the only one she'll truly listen to of course. still, she's in a rather se-heavy profession, so it's no surprise i don't necessarily see a ton of weak se behavior. she's good at being a cop & fighting because she's trained for it, but she gets reckless at times. (for comparison, check out "olivia dunham" from "fringe" - she's an INFJ working as an agent who doesn't seem super inf se, but it still shows up from time to time.)
