Personality

What personality type is Dominic Kearney? Dominic Kearney is an ESFP personality type in MBTI, 7w6 - - 728 in Enneagram, SLUAN in Big 5, SEE in Socionics.

The most tragic "barrel o' laughs" to ever exist. Dominic displays a constant need for stimulation and excitement, a compulsive drive to keep up the "good times". With the limited resources on this isolated island, he still manages (for a time) to find things to engage with, even finding "interest" in something as simple as a stick with a hook, as it represents an opportunity for escape since he can childishly play with and wonder about its uses. There is a sense of desperation in his "childlike" demeanor. Whereas small children are often inherently curious, inquisitive, and engaged in the world, for Dominic there is the feeling of "chasing" and "seeking out" objects of interest instead of simply reacting to them as they naturally appear. Key to nearly all of his activities is the need to run away from boredom, and more importantly, from his own painful reality. Dominic has no tolerance for anything that jeopardizes this quest. When morale becomes low, he reacts instinctively, like a person at risk of drowning. This can be seen in how quickly he lashes out at Padraic, frustrated with his "whining" about his lost friend, and similarly, in how during the dinner scene at Padraic and Siobhan's home, he laments that the mood is low and calls the house dreary because of it. His restlessness in pursuit of distraction is to the point that even "the maudlin ones" (slow, sentimental songs some play and sing at the pub) seem to represent a threat, hence his demand that they instead play something "to dance to" (or, in reality, to recover his frantically chipper mood). All of this does seem to point to 7 for me, although I wonder about his instinctual variants. I can see the "word-vomit" of SX, (particularly with his near-inability to stop talking, even when others are frustrated with him), and I could also see his dream of being with Siobhan as an expression of SX fantasizing. I could also see some SP, for example in his desire to "band together" with whoever gives him the time of day, quickly declaring almost desperately that he and Padraic make a good team or that he and Siobhan have "lots in common" because of how they talk about old people. I could see these behaviors being argued as resulting from SX merging, but it seems a bit more deliberate and strategic to me--a means for survival--which makes me think SP. I'm not sure about SO points. I'm admittedly not very familiar with that subtype, so I would love to see some arguments for or against it, as well as for or against anything else mentioned in this comment. Finally for his wing, he seems more prone to appeasing than intimidating when faced with aggressors, which seems to point to 6 over 8 for me. I also think that the warm and submissive nature of SP 6 suits him more than the "strength & beauty" schtick of the SX 6 or the cold conformity of the SO 6. This further convinces me that the SP instinct might belong somewhere in his stacking.
