Biography
Nasir-ud-Din Muhammad better known by his regnal name Humayun was the second emperor of the Mughal Empire, who ruled over territory in what is now Eastern Afghanistan, Pakistan, Northern India, and Bangladesh from 1530 to 1540 and again from 1555 to 1556. His reign was interrupted in 1540 when he was defeated by the Afghan warlord Sher Shah Suri, after which the latter took over his Empire. After 15 years of struggling, Humayun was able to defeat the successors of Sher Shah with the aid of the Safavid dynasty of Persia. By the end of his reign, he had managed, not just to regain his Empire but expand it. He died as a result of slipping down the staircase of his palace and was succeeded by his son Akbar the Great.
