Kuon Wataru MBTI Personality Type
Personality
What personality type is Kuon Wataru? Kuon Wataru is an ENFJ personality type in MBTI, 3w4 - so/sp - 358 in Enneagram, SCOEI in Big 5, EIE in Socionics.
His original emphasis on "getting to the top" has a premise, a prerequisite, that is to do it by pulling together a concerted team. You may say "but Te can also do that". True. But if he really is a Te-dom, being in that situation, he would have no problem emotioinally detaching himself with his schoolmates afterwards, he would compartmentalize his personal feelings, and he would be doing whatever he can to get to new partners on whom he can apply his Te (what an ENTJ would possibly do). In the Te-Fi case, the way he measures his own success or failure would be the efficiency and productivity under his carefully strategized monitor. And we see that's clearly not the case. His frustration came from the failure of NOT BEING ABLE TO GET TO OTHERS BY SPREADING TEAMPLAY VALUE. In the show we see him automatically inclines to disclose his values and feelings, ones that failed to be recognized and appreciated by his former team (Kuon's self-statements always "land" on the people and their CONNECTIONS, not on the kind of "success" measured by Te's universal standard). His unfulfilled Fe based on others' lack of commitment mired him in depression and trust issues, which he could get over much easier if he uses Te (because it doesn't matter with whom he plays). Throughout his time in BL he demonstrated his personality, tentatively, but revealing: he was often influenced by others' opinions; he somehow always felt pulled to be responsible and be caring of others' feelings even when he didn't have to; and he went out of his way to make people feel comfortable by engaing in hosting and care-taking. His way with the other players are heavily emotion- and harmony-oriented. If he had been a Te user pretending to use Fe, he would still appear kind and caring (yes, ENTJs can be soft and caring), but plenty of the "unnecessary" stuff he did with team Z and the rapports he built with them would not be there. He ONLY needed to present himself as a trustworthy minor role or a supportive wallflower in order to facilitate his betrayal, he wouldn't need to meddle too much and too personally with the players---no, because that is his spontaneous showing of his affective nature. It gives away what he wants, and......also, what facade is better and more convincing than a man's true, hidden, insecure self? Despite what he says, what he really wanted, what he didn't get, and what he changed himself as a result of---is always a team that engages with his values of intimacy, sees him as a role-model, and builds around him dynamics of mutual trust and effort. He desires a community that harmoniously reciprocate and inspire each other to reach the top together, in which his emphasis is on "us TRYNG together" over "the top". He DIDN'T GET THE "US" ATTITUDE, TURNED TO THE DARK SIDE, GOT WHAT HE WISHED FOR IN TEAM Z BUT IRONICALLY DIDN'T TRUST IT UNTIL THE MOMENT THE AUTHOR GRANTED HIM REDEMPTION. He tackled Nagi after team Z moved him to believe how strong their emotional motivation was for each other, and it was the cliche "dream"---the ambiance of trying their heads off no matter how dire the situation seemed---that granted Kuon's already-given-up wish. If he is Te-dom, he would have stuck to observing despite how moved and remorseful he felt: what has been done is done, Te can hardly allow him to give up this last chance to advance to the next level just because he "felt moved". When he tackled Nagi, he practically handed everything away (which he earned painfully by dragging his name through dirt). Kuon didn't interfere because "Fe is more sympathetic and Te is more practical" (BIG stereotype and miscomprehensions on the functions), it's because his Fe has finally been satisfied when he realized what he already HAD but THROWN AWAY. He wanted to be empathized with, and he wanted to empathize with others, that's what he meant when he ranted on about "I don't need companions ANYMORE". That's his entire character arc, and it's clearly designed around Fe.
