Personality

What personality type is Mikoto Kayano 009? Mikoto Kayano 009 is an ESFJ personality type in MBTI, 3w4 - sp/so - 396 in Enneagram, SLOAN in Big 5, LSE in Socionics.

[WHY MIKOTO IS NOT E4] ↳ 1/2 *At the time of writing, 4 was the consensus (*shivers*) Let's begin with type 4 overall. Enneagram 4 is most prominently described by Envy, or the "painful sense of lack and craving," and a tendency to "self-victimization and frustration." This is a person who wallows in their pain, and believes life to be defined by suffering.Often, this type is described as masochistic, they see suffering as a badge, and themselves as noble or unique for their pain. You can liken this to Haruka (a clear so4), who says in his song that "this loneliness was desired" and that he's "become a victim," implying that a lot of his distress is self-inflicted. Compare this with Mikoto, who actively represses his negative emotions. He can constantly be heard saying that nothing is wrong, that he's completely fine, and that this all must be a mistake. In fact, Mikoto's determination to avoid feeling negative is the exact reason he now feels "split into two," as he doesn't even identify his negative feelings as a part of himself. The negative emotions seen in MeMe (and in the voice drama when he attacks Es) have been completely separated from himself, and taken on by the alter(s) instead. As you can see, this opposes type 4 by itself, but for the sake of argument, let's move on to trait structures. > ”The negative imagery that I swallowed hugged me. Maybe it’s ok to try to keep on living. Split in half, Make that heart beat” > ”No way, No way! Time out, time out! Stop it! Saying all those awful things!!!” ↝ Envy ↜ Though I already mentioned this, I will elaborate a bit more. Envy also involves a "cannibalistic impulse" which can lead to the heart triad's classic love need, or to the type 4's greediness. Such impulses can become an extreme where envy becomes a poison of sorts, taking from others until their goodness is spoiled, matching the type 4's self perception. Envy can also show up as a search for the incredible and otherworldly, and the rejection of that which appears too normal. Mikoto, on the other hand, doesn't show this envious destruction, and he certainly doesn't reject the ordinary. He spends his life working a normal job that he devotes himself to, out of a desire for stability (which can be inferred from the fact that he's so terrified of losing his job). > “I was just living an ordinary, everyday life… and yet I got dragged into something this weird!” > "I’m just a normal worker at a company…" ↝ Poor Self-Image ↜ This includes various traits such as excessive shame, inadequacy, a feeling of being attacked, or of being ultimately bad/poisonous/evil. This point does actually apply to Mikoto, as you can tell from his music video which portrays him as a monster, despite the fact that it's very vague on the real story. However, rather than Mikoto seeing all of himself with this poor image, he primarily sees his anger, bitterness, and stress as frightening things to avoid at all costs, but he views his work persona as a positive thing that he wants to keep living in the comfort of. Again, this avoidance of negativity doesn't fit with type 4. Compare Haruka's self image with Mikotos: > Haruka: " It’ll happen sometime. I… I…Even though I try to be normal, everything gets ruined. You, everyone, if you knew me… If you knew everything that I did… I’m… gonna be abandoned, that’s bound to happen. Because I’m a selfish killer." > Mikoto: "Even if you talk about sins or murderers– I don’t know about any of that! I’m just a normal worker at a company" Even a 4 who hadn't murdered anyone would bring up their flaws and failures in reference to themselves, whereas Mikoto tells himself he's a perfectly average, good person. ↝ Focus on Suffering ↜ Type 4s are sensitive and passionate, and tend to view life itself as tragic. They are constantly plagued by a sense of longing for things they lack (again, envy), and end up bitter or as 'crybabies'. For a 4, pain is not just suffering, but also something almost romantic. As I'm sure you've noticed, Mikoto doesn't do this. > "Hey, hey, your grumpy, angry attitude is a bother. Cut it out and stop worrying everyone else." > Yuno: "I only smile when I want to. But you seem to be forcing a smile whenever you talk to people. Aren’t your cheeks tired?" > "S-stress? (laugh) No, no." For the sake of not repeating myself over and over again, here are other 4 traits. ↝ Emotionality (Similar to the above points) ↝ Self-Victimization/Arrogance (Doesn't apply to him) I hope that this is helpful for understanding why Mikoto is not a 4. I'd also like to point out that type 4 doesn't put on a mask like other types do. Their identity (found in suffering) is of utmost importance to them, and any perceived or imagined attacks on this are taken with great offense. To be so focused on conforming, being "normal" and creating stable relationships with others like Mikoto is not a 4 trait at all. [continues below]
