And as for Ne vs Se: “You can’t expect the future to be just like the past.” Se-dom or aux would’ve made him a lot more concerned with the present moment than the future. “Oh, Alice. Is it better to hope or to know?” He didn’t want to get in touch with Alice for a long time because he wanted to cling to the possibility of things working out for the better rather than having his dreams crushed.
