Tyler Durdens type, based off of actual sources and not made up garbage Sources: Psychological Types by C. G. Jung (1921) https://www.jungiananalysts.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/von-Franz-M-L-1971-Four-Irrational-Types.pdf First I'll be debunking the most common arguments I see, then I'll be making my own argument "IT IS CLEAR HE IS NE BECAUSE OF HIS TERRORISM/SCHEMES" You could categorize this argument into 2 different parts. Since every agrees on Ti aux, most arguments center around "Se dom vs Ne dom" and "Si inferior vs Ni inferior". I will tackle both. The stupidest one is Ni inferior vs Si inferior because they're simply misinformed. Most arguments I see act as if Tyler Durden is on some grand strike against Si "society", which doesn't even make sense simply because why would society be about subjective impressions of reality? The argument goes that because of his irresponsibility, lack of "groundedness" in reality (in terms of his ideals) and his hatred of consumerism would all point towards Si inferior. Most anti-Ni inferior sentiments revolve around how "Tyler has too many plans for the future". These arguments are just foundationally wrong, because their definitions are wrong. Si inferior as described by Jung is about inexplicable body sensations, neurotic compulsions, compulsive hypochondriacal ideas, phobias etc... and has nothing to do with "hatred of authority" or rebellion. Ni inferior on the other hand, fits. Ni inferior is about strange abstract projections, paranoia and misguided hunches. Does "strange abstract projections" sound like someone to you, y'know the guy who created a terrorist cult? Another one is Ne vs Se, which I admit is far more closer. But Jung simplified each type to ONE internal process they both live around. As they are both objective irrationals, they seek and explore however in 2 very different realms. Jung says "• But just as Se strives to reach the highest pitch of actuality, so Ne tries to apprehend the widest range of possibilities." Sure, Tyler Durden has a good grasp on the abstract world, he has his own set of morals and his own ideology, but that doesn't cover Ne endeavours. Ne is irrational. The creation of an ideology MAYBE aided by Ne, but ultimately Ne does not "CREATE IDEAS". It apprehends the widest range of possibilities, it creates connections. Direct quote from jung. "Thinking and feeling (qq.v.) are rational functions in so far as they are decisively influenced by reflection. They function most perfectly when they are in the fullest possible accord with the laws of reason. The irrational functions, sensation and intuition (qq.v.), are those whose aim is pure perception; for, as far as possible, they are forced to dispense with the rational (which presupposes the exclusion of everything that is outside reason) in order to attain the most complete perception of the general flux of events." People misunderstand what intuition is. "Intuition does not say what things mean but sniffs out their possibilities. Meaning is given by thinking. - Carl Jung, Jung-Kirsch Letters, Page 21" "Abstraction is an activity pertaining to psychological functions in general. There is abstract thinking, just as there is abstract feeling, sensation, and intuition. Abstract thinking singles out the rational, logical qualities of a given content from its intellectually irrelevant components. Abstract feeling does the same with a content characterized by its feeling-values...Abstract sensation would be aesthetic as opposed to sensuous sensation, and abstract intuition would be symbolic as opposed to fantastic intuition. ~Carl Jung; "Definitions," CW 6, par. 678." Intuition has nothing to do with "creating an ideology" at all. It's about sniffing out the possibilities. Abstraction =/= intuition. Intuition is possibilities/connections WHICH are inherently abstract but don't deal with the entire abstract world. Meanwhile check out Extroverted Sensation, again all JUNG'S word. "Those objects which release the strongest sensation are decisive for the Se’s psychology." "Sensation for them is a concrete expression of life—it is simply real life lived to the fullest." And here's the kicker, the one that made ME decide: "Their entire aim is concrete enjoyment, and their morality is oriented accordingly." That alone should do it And so when we go back to everything I've just said, what can we gather? >Most Ne votes are a fundamental misunderstanding of types >Tyler can't be Ne because of Si inferior because Si inferior is not about dejectedness of reality but disconnectedness in sensations >Tyler can't be Ne because ONLY BECAUSE of ideology because Ne is an irrational type >Tyler is Se because of how Se's morality is oriented (towards concrete enjoyment) >Tyler is Se because of how Ni inferior manifests Before I see "but you used jungian?" I want an argument describing how you can be ES(T) and ENTP. seriously I will switch sides if I see a good one
