If there is one thing I hate is when people come at me and say my personal experience is not a valid argument - when functions are nothing more and nothing less than ways to understand personality types - people. And if I can use my own experience as an INFP to say why I think X character is an INFP then we should throw this whole site away. Because this theory started because people explained their ways of thinking to another person. First it of all. INFP CAN BE 9s. “But in the original theory this and that” - just because the one who created the theory said something doesn’t mean he is 100% right. People believe that the earth was being held by a turtle in the middle ages. Are they right? Besides, we are talking about human science. A theory on the field of human science (that is already very subjective) that is not even complete - is considered pseudoscience in a lot of fields. This means it is still in development and people can theorize as much as we want, there is no right or wrong in this. Which means that doesn’t matter how hard you go with your feet saying “A NINE CANT BE INFP” is not going to change the fact that yes, me and a lot of people think that nine’s can be INFP’s. Yes, sensors are the most prone to this E9. But this is not an unbreakable rule. Me, as like others, see that INFP’s that have a tendency to 9 are self preservation types, that in stressful situations prefer to ignore our feelings and focus on something we take pleasure in, ignoring what is bothering us. We like peace and do our best to put others above ourselves, not because we think their feelings are more important than ours, but because it is simply our values. We value harmony and peace, and if valuing it means that we have to bend sometimes, be it. Now, let’s go to why I think Yamato is an INFP. (Fi) - Yamato IS in tune with what she feels. This is the most important part of a user of Fi. Fi users are in tune with what they feel and use their feelings to understand others, unlike Fe users that are in tune with what other people feel and then use these feelings to understand themselves. We can see this with Yamato’s friends - Yamato assumes that her friends will like her boyfriend anyway, because it is what she feels - She likes him so of course her friends will do the same. When she sees is not like that she gets extremely upset and then stands up to her boyfriend, wanting her friends to see Takeo exactly like she sees him - A cool guy. In fact it is hard for her to think that the whole world is not after her boyfriend because since she thinks he is cool, the whole world must think the same. Besides, Takeo even said that Yamato is what she is in any place she goes. Which means she is concentrating on being her real self - and not faking something she is not, which is quite a relevant theme in the show - people faking to be someone else to please others - something that is never true with Yamato. And yes, I know - you could argue as much as you like about her doing what Takeo wants being a proof of Fe, that being in tune with him is Fe too, and you are not wrong - could be proof. But it also couldn’t be. After all, any type has the incredible capacity of giving in in a relationship, and doing something that we don’t want and we don’t like or stopíng doing something we want and like. This means we are all Fe? No, it means we are just functional human beings. In the end, FOR ME, Yamato follows what she feels is right from the beginning. Where people saw a huge weird guy, she saw a nice one and went for it without asking anyone their opinions. (Ne) - Then we have Ne. People are so focused on arguing about Fe and Fi that they even forget the main or aux function that plays a lot of part in the choosing type. After all, the functions that appear the most are the first and second one. And we see this function on her. When she and Takeo get lost in the park, she doesn’t go analyzing her surrings, or analyze the past - she goes to her fantasy land - where she dreams of an improbable future with Takeo. In fact, we can see a lot of times that she is unaware of those surroundings - She is always tripping and falling, always lost in her own thoughts. She overthinks her actions a lot too, thinking about all the possibilities, and how Takeo will or won’t get mad at her for doing something, or how she will or won’t mess up something, only stopping her spiral when somebody else helps her see things in the right way. She is a character that is focused a lot on the future besides her boyfriend, and what she wants with him. (Si) and (Te) - Being sincere I almost don’t see any Si on her. I kinda see most in her cooking part, where she relies on recipes and in some kind of structure to make the candies. But besides that I don’t see much. And this is the end of this long post. Yes, I said earlier I would go to sleep but I couldn’t without rationalizing and posting my thoughts. And if you agree, good, if you don't, too.
