Electric is a directly offensive type, with the majority of its Pokémon being either physical or special glass cannons. Most Electric moves are either powerful physical or special attacks that can either deal more damage under certain circumstances, usually based on the user’s speed (Bolt Beak, Rising Voltage, Electro Ball, Fusion Bolt); cause paralysis (almost all of them); or either boost the user’s stats (Charge Beam) or reduce the target’s (Electroweb). There are a few somewhat unique Electric offensive moves, but they are either signature moves of certain Pokémon (Morpeko’s Aura Wheel, Zeraora’s Plasma Fists, Zing Zap which was Togedemaru’s signature move), or they have weak base power in exchange for a unique effect (Shock Wave, Parabolic Charge). And even then, Electric mostly takes those unique effects from other types, such as Shock Wave being just Electric Swift, or Parabolic Charge being Electric Mega Drain. Zeraora’s Plasma Fists is just an offensive Ion Deluge, and moves that change type based on the user’s form are not exclusive to Morpeko. Electric sees what already works in the current environment and takes it. Volt Switch is just Electric U-Turn, Volt Tackle is Electric Double-Edge, and Overdrive is just a weaker Electric Hyper Voice. Electric signature moves such as Max Lightning set terrain, while the two G-Max Electric moves and Stoked Sparksurfer can paralyze. Thunder Cage is a slightly weaker Magma Storm and a variant of the trapping moves. For a type people often classify as Ne dom, there are an awful lot of moves that either deal more damage, boost the user’s stats, reduce the target’s stats, or paralyze. Electric is known for observing trends, seeing what works for other types, and appropriating the most successful moves from those types for themselves. That sounds more like Se than Ne. Although there are a handful of Electric status moves, they mostly involve the manipulation of what already exists, rather than using electricity in diverse or creative ways. Their effects are also extremely direct, opting mostly for stat changes, or affecting the power of Electric moves. - Thunder Wave paralyzes the foe with electricity - Electrify shocks the target so their Normal moves are treated as Electric for the turn - Ion Deluge is Electrify but for the entire field - Charge stores the user’s electricity to power up its next Electric move and its Special Defense - Eerie Impulse releases electric waves to reduce the target’s Special Attack - Electric Terrain releases electricity to boost all Electric moves for a few turns - Magnet Rise and Magnetic Flux manipulate magnetic fields to grant a bonus to specific Pokémon based on electromagnetism (levitating and boosting defenses of Plus/Minus ally Pokémon) Electric is a relatively uniform type, with more than half of all current Electric types being pure type, and most Electric combinations being restricted to just one or two evolutionary families. Electric has either strong physical or special sweepers, and even Pokémon with low speed stats like Ampharos, Alolan Golem, Vikavolt, and Magnezone have one great to high offensive stat in one area and above average bulk to compensate. None of them are strictly walls; they are just bulkier, slower, and stronger variants of the more common glass cannons. Electric is the type of the Pikaclones, where various Pokémon imitate Pikachu and often have high speed and effective status moves like the original. Electric is also the type of form changes, with Pokémon like Rotom, Oricorio, Morpeko, and Toxtricity often adjusting their physical aesthetics to match the environment (Se+Fe). Electric imitates rather than innovates. Rotom just did what Deoxys did, but later applied Shaymin’s type change. Morpeko took the Darmanitan Zen Mode gimmick. Oricorio refined the Shaymin gimmick beyond what Rotom did. Toxtricity is the Lycanroc or Wormadam gimmick. Electric often assumes established trends years after other Pokémon and types experimented with them first. Let me emphasize: Electric does NOT experiment the way that other types do. Electric is not unconventional like other types. The only unconventional aspects of this type are paralysis, which is Electric’s signature trait that it harps on to death; and Electric only being weak to a single type, Ground. Electric only resists itself, Flying, and Steel, and it can only hurt Water and Flying super effectively. Electric has little defensive prowess but offensively it can damage 14 of the 18 types at least neutrally. Electric is one of the most direct, in your face, overwhelm with raw power and get as much pure advantage as possible types in the game. Electric is logical - win the game by hurting the opponent before they can hurt you. If you aren’t fast enough to hurt them first, be bulky enough so that you can survive and hurt them later. Paralyze opponents. Switch out. Electric’s identity is based on external standards and trends. Very ESTP.

Electric-types are known for their ability to control electricity. Most of them are known for extraordinary speed stats. They are also capable of inflicting the paralysis status (though this ability isn't exclusive to electric-type moves). Paralysis cuts the affected Pokémon's speed, and there's also a chance that it can't move at all. Electric types are immune to Paralysis themselves. A lot of them are electricity-generating animals, but a number of machines are among the ranks. Electric rodents appear to be particularly common. Offensively, it is effective against two of the most common types in the game (Water and Flying), while it is resisted by Grass-types, Dragon-types, and other Electric-types, with Ground-types being immune. Defensively, it resists Flying, Steel, and itself, and is only weak to Ground. To balance this, most Electric-types have weak defenses. They mostly make their homes in urban regions, but some take up residence in caves and forests, the latter most memorably being where Pikachu are found. In the Trading Card Game, Electric type is referred to as the Lightning energy type. As of Gen IX, Electric has been paired with every other type at least once.
