Yeah I have some doubts about 4 too, he's very head strong (thought of 8 initially but 5 is connected after all), very sure of his own understanding of something that when everything's said and done it's just a theory, a map, not reality itself. 4 INTJ makes little sense, he could still be an ISFP though, but again there's a need for competency in what he does, he's not scattered about it like I am (lack of Ne in him is also painfully clear) and I don't see issues with image in him tbh, he seems pretty ok with his own "self vs the world" 4's issue and doesn't present himself as broken to others, quite the contrary (hence again 5/8), nor do I see signs of frustration/reactivity but rather an intellectual detachment. For the little I read (again all of this is assuming from reading, I don't personally know him) I may even see a 3 fix before 4 because of how competent and impersonal he is in his work. That said I still think his own understanding of 4 is the most accurate (although I don't agree on everything, for example I think he pushes a bit too hard on certain aspects for the sake of it) along with enneagrammer, at least based on how I am. The attachment bias is definitely true and you can see it in Infp being better at describing 6s and 9s while being not even close to 4s although it should be their main type. Also as always I find silly that people are not able to separate the person from their arguments. Sometimes even assholess can be (mostly) right, that's life, stop moralising everything. Take what's good of him and leave out the rest.

John Luckovich is an artist who lives in Brooklyn. He has studied the Enneagram for over a decade. He has a deep involvement in the Fourth Way, an interest in the Egyptian roots of Western spirituality, and six years of training in Integrative Breathwork. John is the author of the upcoming book The Instinctual Drives and the Enneagram. He is also the co-host of The Big Hormone Enneagram Podcast and the co-founder of New York Enneagram.
