Hijiyama is not a person that leads with a thinking function. His primary instinct, especially when pushed, is essentially reliant on his self-image as a manly, duty-bound, heterosexual son of Japan, and the worldview that derives from it. This self-image is so strong that keeps him from acting in logical self-preservation or self-interest, like eating from the trash when starving or acknowledging his attraction to another man. He won't even abandon the "son of Japan" business after realizing that everything was a simulation, instead drawing personal strength from it to fight. Fi-dom is not just a good fit, it's basically what drives him and his story - the challenging and development of his self-image. Beyond that, there's not a lick of Ne, and a heavy dose of aux-Se - the man basically runs around thinking two things most of the time - "yakisoba pan" and "that damn Okino", both very much in the present and uh, very sensory. The only other thing he does is get physically aggressive, which also doesn't require a whole lot of provocation. With dom-Fi and aux-Se, ISFP seems natural. The other two functions neatly fall in place as well - contrast his Ni-Te "what are we trying to accomplish and what's the way to do it" attitude to Okino's Ti-Ne "why is this happening and what are our options" attitude to the same events.
