How are people still typing one of the most animalistic and obvious IS E9 characters in film IN(F) IxI? SP5 and SX9 would be the next best options, but he’s, simply put, Fe PoLR af. Let’s take a look at The Narrator’s basic character: — He’s a man living a static life in the 90s, indulging in money, focusing in stability and physical comfort. He’s completely unfazed by this, has no problem leading such a considerably “boring” life. At the beginning of the movie, his only focus is on his home and sleep – his very physical surroundings and day to day life. He’s extremely materialistic, only ever focusing on what’s tangible, he places his worth and social standing based on his physical belongings. He’s completely engulfed in this. The entire character development of The Narrator is essentially learning to reach beyond his base instincts. He’s an instinctual guy, best compared to an animal: he seeks immediate satisfaction and comfort, rather than seeking the root of, or solution to his problems. In one of the very first scenes, he asks his doctor to prescribe him meds to ease his pain, rather than funding a long term solution. Metaphorically, he’s just like an animal, he’d rather find temporary pleasure than think ahead. The development in his character actually shows in the “chemical burn scene”, with Tyler teaching him a lesson: > TYLER: “Listen. You can run water over your hand and make it worse, or -- look at me! -- or you can use vinegar and neutralize the burn.“ — This is a turning point for him. For the first time in his life, he learns to make sacrifices, opting for the sensible, long term solution. The old Narrator we’re first introduced to would’ve immediately run to the sink and poured water over his hand, for a few seconds of comfort, but a worse burn on the longer term. Just as the medication he’d asked for in the beginning. ———————————————————————— Si Role is described is described as negligent of its physical surroundings, although merely compulsively seeking comfort, ultimately, they still don’t care. Even basic stability is out of question, not important at all. Convenience is tolerated, but this man is in no way so uncaring of the concrete. All 9s are described as instinctual, but out of them all, SP9 is the least intellectual and disinterested in anything otherworldly. The man is mentally ill, constantly dissociating and hallucinating, him focusing on an imaginary person in such a state does not make him a Ni Base. As I’d explained, this is nowhere near his essence. He is just an example of an emotionally constipated and dry 1D Fe 3E, SP9. SX9 is reasonable, but the “merging with Tyler” argument is rather superficial, as they’re the same person. He’s way too detached and emotionally averse to social spheres and people to even remotely be 2E/Fe Ego.
