Both Ga-eul and Yu-hyun's conflicts mainly stem from their abusive upbringings. In Yu-hyun's case, his adoptive parents were neglectful. This likely caused Yu-hyun's two conflicting desires. On one side, he wants to be "perfect" in every possible way, so he can be worthy of others' approval. Hence his social mask. On the flip side, he seeks someone who would accept him for "who he is." ...and somehow he thought Ga-eul can be the one lol The reason why he can be such a difficult character to understand, is partly because he constantly lies to even himself. Ni-Te > Fi. He has a clear goal in his mind, and denies his own desires/emotions if they conflict with this ideal. For example, you can see he was fond of Eun-seol (the author also confirmed it) but because he couldn't accept his feelings, he makes up lies such as "I didn't like her much" "I just used her." Ga-eul's dom fi and his tert fi sometimes makes an interesting dynamic, tho very unhealthy
