Chris Higgins is a fictional character in the Friday the 13th franchise. She first appears in Friday the 13th Part III (1982) as a young woman returning to a family homestead to face trauma. Writing duo Martin Kitrosser and Carol Watson wrote a script with her as the new protagonist of the series after the previous film's lead, Amy Steel, declined to return as Ginny. Petru Popescu rewrote their script and spent the most time developing Chris, with there being discussions of her traumatic backstory being explicitly a result of being raped by Jason Voorhees (Richard Brooker). Popescu found this concept to be too exploitative and decided to leave the events of her backstory ambiguous.
