David Benioff (/ˈbɛniɒf/; born David Friedman /ˈfriːdmən/; September 25, 1970) is a Jewish American television producer, writer, and director. Along with his collaborator D. B. Weiss, he is best known as co-creator and showrunner of Game of Thrones, the HBO adaptation of George R. R. Martin's series of books A Song of Ice and Fire. Benioff spent two years writing his first published novel The 25th Hour, and the film adaptation, titled 25th Hour and starring Edward Norton, and directed by Spike Lee was released in 2002. He was also the screenwriter for the film Troy (2004).
