They were forced into a system which didn't resonate with them. A system where they need to be devoid of internal emotion at all costs, because they were the only one pure enough to contain the Radiance. They never resonated with any of the systems, and did them to have approval from the king, although not being sold into his ideas. They did have a lot of internal turmoil, caused specifically by the king and that made him weak in the fight against the Radiance. They were forced into a grip and that cost them their entire life to be wasted. Now, they live as a vessel for the radiance, but completely dead inside.
