Xie Lian MBTI Personality Type

Personality

What personality type is Xie Lian? Xie Lian is an INFJ personality type in MBTI, 2w1 - so/sx - 296 in Enneagram, RCUAI in Big 5, EII in Socionics.

I feel like writing about the distinction between behavioral resemblance(in his case, 9w1) and one's true type. Both 9w1 and 2w1 can be positive, friendly, people-oriented and affectionate, but their inner mechanisms are very different. ¶ Passion • Pride, as a “passion” for type 2, describes the unconscious need to be exactly what other people want or need. It rests upon valuing ourselves and investing energy into how we would like to see ourselves: an idealized self-image. Pride is a compensation for an underlying fear of worthlessness. • Sloth, as a "passion" for type 9, describes the psychological inertia, which refers to a laziness of the psyche and of the spirit, rather than a tendency to inaction, manifesting as a loss of interiority, a refusal to see, and a resistance to change. I've already addressed this in my previous post (sort by top comments): XL's deepest fear and flaw comes from creating an idealized self-image and being overly identified with his superego. Although the numbness of a 9 seems to fit him at the beginning of the novel, it’s not his primary struggle. ¶ Rescuer v. Over-adaptation • Assuming the position of rescuer leads 2s to begin focusing their attention and efforts on more needy people, even what might be called desperate cases. The appreciation they anticipate getting from helping needy people promises to be a source of gratitude and self-esteem. The more needy the beneficiary, the more selfless they seem to their own superego. • By contrast, 9s might appear very friendly and helpful, but they can hardly described as the rescuer. 9s are passive in their accommodation, because it's rooted in an inability to say "no", whereas 2s are actively striving to rescue others. James from The End of the F***ing world is a good example of an INFJ 9's passive tendencies. Pam from The Office is also demonstrative of how 9s have trouble standing up for themselves. Fe+9s are helpful and prone to over-adaptation not because they want to craft a self-image to please their superego, but because they have trouble asserting their own needs or expressing anger. The differences are very apparent if you compare XL's active role of rescuer aimed at earning love and 9's over-adaptation caused by psychological inertia. ¶ Anger and Denial • Average-to-unhealthy 2s seek validation of their worth by obeying their superegos demands to sacrifice themselves for others. They believe they must always put others first and be loving and unselfish if they want to get love. The problem is that putting others first makes 2s secretly angry and resentful—feelings they work hard to repress or deny. • 9s also deny anger, but it has little to do with the self-image of being selfless or the superego. The reason why 9s deny anger is simply to preserve inner peace and their connection with others. 9s respond to pain and suffering by attempting to live in a state of premature peacefulness, whether it is in a state of false spiritual attainment or in more gross denial. 9s are determined to maintain the comforting illusion that everything is okay. ¶ Healthy types • Healthy 2s are aware of the presence of love all around them, so there is nothing that they need to get from anyone—and nothing they can give. • Healthy 9s reclaim their Essential nature by confronting their Basic Fear of losing connection and by letting go of the belief that their participation in the world is unimportant. It's obvious that in the end XL is in a more healthy state, and healthy 2's realization that love is unconditional suits him more. Realizing that an ideal of unconditional love can be found in one-to-one relationship, he is no longer concerned with how others might perceive him, or shameful of his own past mistakes and selfishness.
