I don’t really understand the consensus of him having an 8 fix. From what I’ve observed through reading quite extensively about him and watching a couple documentaries, he doesn’t seem to demonstrate any of the core desires or fears of an 8. I think a 9 fix suits him better. It seems to me that his art (and music) gave him a sense of internal peace, which is why I think he devoted almost all of his time to it, as evident by the fact that he refused to work even when he was dirt poor because the structured nature of having a job was too much for him to handle. He didn’t have control over his life at the time, and it doesn’t really seem like he desired that in the least bit, but he was still perfectly satisfied.

Biography

Jean-Michel Basquiat (December 22, 1960 – August 12, 1988) was an influential American artist of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent. Basquiat first achieved fame as part of SAMO, an informal graffiti duo who wrote enigmatic epigrams in the cultural hotbed of the Lower East Side of Manhattan during the late 1970s, where rap, punk, and street art coalesced into early hip-hop music culture. By the 1980s, his neo-expressionist paintings were being exhibited in galleries and museums internationally. The Whitney Museum of American Art held a retrospective of his art in 1992.
